Who is behind CalcSnap

I am Deep Sonic Echo. That is my pen name, the same one I use for my music and writing at deepsonicecho.com. In everyday life I am a Finnish seafarer: I have spent years working on passenger ships in the Baltic Sea, and I write songs and stories in the long hours between watches. I speak Finnish, Swedish and English, which is why every tool on CalcSnap is available in all three languages.

CalcSnap is not a company or a content farm. It is one person's project: I choose which tools to build, I write the explanations, and I check the formulas. When something is wrong, it is my mistake to fix, and I want to hear about it.

Why a seafarer builds calculators

CalcSnap grew out of value investing. Life at sea teaches you that you cannot control the weather, only your preparation: you keep a margin of safety, you trust your instruments more than your mood, and you accept that some voyages are long. The same ideas sit at the heart of value investing as Benjamin Graham and Warren Buffett described it, and they are the themes of my book Anima, a nautical allegory about patience, conviction and investment.

When I started doing my own valuation sums, I found that most online calculators were slow, cluttered, asked for an email address, or hid the formula. So I built the tools I wanted to use: the Graham Number, DCF, Margin of Safety and compound interest calculators, and then the everyday tools that people search for most, from mortgages and BMI to word games.

How the tools are built

Every tool follows three rules.

Accuracy. I use the standard published formulas: amortization mathematics for loans and mortgages, the Mifflin-St Jeor equation for calorie needs, WHO thresholds for BMI, Graham's own formula for the Graham Number and a standard two-stage discounted cash flow model for intrinsic value. Each page explains the formula so you can check it yourself.

Transparency. A good tool tells you what it cannot do. A BMI calculator that ignores muscle mass, or a retirement calculator that hides how sensitive the result is to the return you assume, gives false confidence. Each page lists the main limitations.

Privacy. All calculations run in your own browser. There is no server, no database and no account, so the numbers you type have nowhere to go except your screen. You can confirm this in your browser's developer tools: no request carries your inputs.

How I check and correct the calculators

Each tool is tested against worked examples from textbooks, bank calculators and official sources before it is published, in all three languages and on mobile. If you find a result that looks wrong, email me with the page address and the numbers you entered. Calculation errors are fixed first, and the page is updated as soon as the fix is tested.

CalcSnap is an educational tool, not a financial, medical or legal adviser. I am not a licensed financial adviser, and nothing on this site is a recommendation to buy or sell anything. How the site is funded

CalcSnap is free. It is supported by display advertising from Google AdSense, shown in line with Google's policies and EU consent rules.
